OPEN-PIT SUSTAINABLE MINING

Environmental sustainability

We acknowledge that, due to its nature, the mining industry has the potential to cause significant environmental impact. Therefore, we are committed to assist our Clients with evaluating, planning  and managing such impacts on an ongoing basis from exploration to development, operation, and closure of sites.

Data collection and monitoring

Open-pit mine surveys, environmental monitoring, vegetation inventory and classification, crisis prevention surveys, water surveys and water quality control, forest and agricultural monitoring.

If not monitored and managed carefully the impact that mining have may effect surrounding communities and settlements. Tacmin Rafiki’s community awareness survey program is aimed at regular monitoring, by means of aerial survey and recoding with ortho imagery and alerting mines personnel in advance of potential threats, such as ground and surface water contamination, pollution and soil degradation to surrounding communities.

Data processing, maps and models

Data exchange is done via our secure dedicated, robust servers and software ranges from flight planning, image processing, triangulation, DTM, orthomosaic, 3D mapping, geology, mine design, mine planning to ArcGIS.

Data processing is carried out by a multi-disciplinary team of specialists, each member has considerable experience in the application of software, hardware and processing of data, thus turnaround time is minimised, and prior to submission; verified and checked by mining expertise. Tacmin Rafiki has made significant investments into easy-to-scale high performance storage and computing power, which provides us with considerable production capability.

Data and impact assessments

Suspicion of possible harm to the environment or to human health, serious threat to human health or environmental components, prevent environmental accidents and ecological damage.

Risk can never be eliminated, but they can be managed. As environmental regulations become more rigorous, mine owners must pay extra attention to tailings disposal management, particularly in regions where water resources are limited or where social/environmental concerns dominate. Traditional tailings management systems contain enormous amounts of water over large areas, using high dams that have, in some cases, suffered catastrophic failure.
